Quilting Morris

Hi Friends

I recently started quilting Expression of Morris using the QAYG method. That part is working wonderfully. However, my Pfaff Expressions 4 gave me all sorts of bother, again, and I was ready to throw it. Each time I start to quilt, even when used 2 weeks earlier, those settings gave me grief. Whether it be breaking & shredding thread or jumping stitches the frustration of this temperamental machine and just wanting to sew has driven me to tears. I joined a lovely group on FB and asked for help, which I got lots of. Who knew that reducing the needle tension, considerably, was really the key after all. I kind of thought that this expensive clever machine would set itself correctly when choosing the different applications, as in Free Motion Quilting. It was also suggested to use the Spring loaded foot for echo work so I can slow down and this helped too. So lots of trial and error, we are on a roll and back to happy Pfaffing!

Beautiful Canola Fields in our area of regional NSW Australia. It's a yellow that makes you smile on the Inside, even on a not so bright spring day.

This is Bertie (Albert) as I've named him, the resident Magpie at work who lands for breakfast when I arrive. He also gets lunch and sometimes afternoon snack as well. I don't see his wife Rose as much at the moment as she's busy on the nest and Bertie is collecting food for her. She will come in later in the season when they bring their young one to meet me.

 

I bought a removable design wall from Amazon (cost $27AU posted from the US). It has eyelets and is attached to sticky hooks - those ones you can remove without tearing the paint. I've had a bit of a play with Emma Mary, a Judy Newman design, to at sometime get onto joining them and not leaving til all 225 are done!

And with Wayne my Love, my ever so sweet and thoughtful Husband, who got me away for the weekend for some time out. Am going through some hard times and we are far from the other side of it.

Friday Follies

Hello Again

As promised I'm posting an update with JulieAnn & my projects following a very happy Friday off we shared.

Firstly, big congratulations to JulieAnn who finished her Mariners quilt (a Chris Jurd design) and recently also got The Prince Quilt by Susan Smith together.

We had a lovely day together, enjoying a glass of bubbles with lunch (my risotto) and a movie as well. Girl on a Train was the selection as we've both read the book - I liked the movie and believe it kept true to the story.

I continued working on a project which I have now given a name: Eyton Hall. I decided to look back into my ancestry for a name and this came from Eyton upon the Weald Moors (UK) where numerous family members originated from & lived in times long past.

I love toiles and wanted a project to use them without losing their beauty...

I am loving this sew much; after reading another blog yesterday I came across the use of downloadable hexagon graph paper. I've now found some & will spend some time drawing the completed design up so I have an idea of what I'm doing, as currently its all in my head!

Over the Christmas Break I set to task on getting Jane Austeen (yes that's correct) a Di Ford design together. I chose this pattern to once again utilize a mix of beautiful fabrics to their best. It came together after lots of pinning, pressing, sewing.... repeat. There is still a border to go on, but I don't have a fabric for that as yet. I am super happy with the end result.

And to finish off on the Project News is a quilt I've made for my granddaughters First Birthday (which is next week). I'll be heading off for a coastal visit this weekend to celebrate both her Birthday & Christening.

And Angus - he's been suffering in the heat but holding up well. Here he was enjoying being outside with me in a cooler moment.

Well that's about it for this post; troubles with loading photos held me up and we are now in February!

We met through patchwork just over 3 years ago; a friendship meant to be.

Our passion is Reproduction quilts & William Morris. We love to get away for workshops & classes, or just catch up over a glass of wine and talk about life, patchwork and our patchwork plans.  Life, however, has a habit of interferring with our plans.

On QWE we want to share our works on the go: between us that could be a little scary. And of course any that we finish...oops, that’s our “F” word!
