More Morris

Hi Friends
A completed Expression of Morris. This photo is without binding, however it is all done and now on the spare bed. I'm just needing help to take proper photo's.

Angus has given his paw approval of the new quilt

It is Spring now in Australia, which is lovely except the hay-fever has already hit with a vengeance which is bad sign of the season to come. And the start of Spring also means unsettled weather with great variances in temperature. 

I only had 3 tulips this year, but they were lovely. 

I'm really looking forward to my roses blooming

I decided needed a change of view and have started a new project and yes it's another Morris inspired quilt.

Adelaide Floral Sampler by Michele Hill

I bought this from Berrima Patchwork many years ago as a block of the month in the Black version.

I've already decided to make it a wall hanging and not one for the bed - you've seen Angus!!

So its having some minor adjustments to make it smaller

Quilting Morris

Hi Friends

I recently started quilting Expression of Morris using the QAYG method. That part is working wonderfully. However, my Pfaff Expressions 4 gave me all sorts of bother, again, and I was ready to throw it. Each time I start to quilt, even when used 2 weeks earlier, those settings gave me grief. Whether it be breaking & shredding thread or jumping stitches the frustration of this temperamental machine and just wanting to sew has driven me to tears. I joined a lovely group on FB and asked for help, which I got lots of. Who knew that reducing the needle tension, considerably, was really the key after all. I kind of thought that this expensive clever machine would set itself correctly when choosing the different applications, as in Free Motion Quilting. It was also suggested to use the Spring loaded foot for echo work so I can slow down and this helped too. So lots of trial and error, we are on a roll and back to happy Pfaffing!

I recently flew to Melbourne for work and captured the Natural Patchwork Landscape from above

Beautiful Canola Fields in our area of regional NSW Australia. It's a yellow that makes you smile on the Inside, even on a not so bright spring day.

This is Bertie (Albert) as I've named him, the resident Magpie at work who lands for breakfast when I arrive. He also gets lunch and sometimes afternoon snack as well. I don't see his wife Rose as much at the moment as she's busy on the nest and Bertie is collecting food for her. She will come in later in the season when they bring their young one to meet me.

 

I bought a removable design wall from Amazon (cost $27AU posted from the US). It has eyelets and is attached to sticky hooks - those ones you can remove without tearing the paint. I've had a bit of a play with Emma Mary, a Judy Newman design, to at sometime get onto joining them and not leaving til all 225 are done!

And with Wayne my Love, my ever so sweet and thoughtful Husband, who got me away for the weekend for some time out. Am going through some hard times and we are far from the other side of it.

Coming Up Roses

Hi Friends

After being on a roll and keeping up with everything, Life as it often does gets in the way. Things have turned around and at the moment, we are on a good path and here's hoping to it continuing.

A few photo's to share; yesterday I completed the centre and final block for Expression of Morris. The second pic shows what the layout will be. I'm going to use the Quilt as You Go method for quilting and it also needs a border fabric. That will wait a little while as I've a new project I want to start and am also trying to get a few Christmas projects done. Christmas... hard to believe isn't it!

Now I've called this post Coming up Roses for a reason! My little garden is blooming nicely, below are a few for your enjoyment. 

 Fairytale Magic is new for this Year; she is exquisite.

 The Lady of Shallot, a David Austin Rose is a pure delight

William Morris... another David Austin does not dissapoint!

Dark Desire; new last year. She is an absolute beauty

 Extase has been a long time favourite; the scent is delicious

My Magnolia Little Gem has such large blooms this year and the busy are absolutely loving it. 

The tree is a mass of buds. 

I recently had a birthday and received these shoes as a gift. Aren't they gorgeous!

I'm blessed to have the most beautiful people in my life

The Birds

A very quick Hi to share 2 more completed blocks for Expression of Morris. They are Birds - but I see chooks & dragons... but maybe that's just me!!
Just the centre to go now - YAY!!

September = Spring

Well September means Spring is upon us here in Australia after a cold, frosty & dry winter. Many parts of the country are in severe drought making it extremely tough on our farmers who are unable to feed stock and struggle to keep going. We need drenching rain and lots of it, soon!

The Rail-fence quilt I started for my brother's upcoming wedding (in November) is totally finished. I'm extremely happy to tick it off the list and get back to my regular stitching. I used a French General Jellyroll for the top from the Ville Fleurie range. The backing is scrappy, also made  from the same range. I decided as it's a special gift to have it professionally quilted - because that is definitely not my thing.

The progress on these birds (which I call Chooks, but think they kind of look like Dragons) has been slow, but progress none the less. I need to get it finished and onto prepping the final block which is centre for Expression of Morris.

And to finish I had to share a photo of this yummy platter we enjoyed on an outing last week

WoW #1

Hi Friends

Thought I'd do something different & join WOW or Work in Progress on Wednesdays with Esther's Quilt Blog and show you what's in progress at the moment.

Expression of Morris continues with Block 7 Underway.

These are called Dancing Birds...and all looks a bit messy at the moment. As with the other blocks I'm simplifying as I go as there are meant to be soooo many little pieces it's just too much. My plan is to embroider in the detail when all finished. This quilt has waited 8+ years to get started and was bought as a BOM. I'm not too impressed with several of the fabrics, they are not great quality; I just want it out of the way.

Recently completed Block 6: Sunflowers.

And for something completely different, I made and almost completed this little handbag for my Granddaughter on the weekend. I'm delighted to say I'll be heading to the South Coast of Eastern Australia (about 5 1/2 hrs drive for me) to see my daughter & precious little girl very soon. Cannot wait to see them and get my hug fix.

Morris Continues

Hi Everyone

2 more blocks completed for Expression of Morris. I've not been terribly thrilled with some of the fabric choices (it was a BOM) and felt the blocks required some light.

I've now commenced tracing the remainder of Blocks, as you can see from the picture below... I have a lot of work ahead of me!

I do not know the owner of this actual quilt ~ I located it using Google.

I hope they don't mind me using this to show you the project in its entirety.

A New ~ Old Project

Just a quick hello before another month is gone!

I've started working on a new quilt - well it's a bit old really.

Expression of Morris by Katie Friesen which I bought as a BOM some 8 years ago!! I had even started on prepping which I've now caught up to and have much more ahead.

The first two blocks are complete and another close by. Have to get on with it while I take a break from Eyton....and many others. I'm sure you know how that is.
