Sydney Quilt Show 2017

Hi All

As promised, finally, a post of our trip to The Sydney Quilt Show held at Darling Harbour in Sydney, Australia back in June.

JulieAnn & I flew to Sydney on the Friday and didn't come home until Monday afternoon. It was the most fabulous weekend of friendship, relaxation (except for all the walking), chilling out and awe-inspiring, breathtaking quilts.

Good thing for us we bought 3 day passes, because on Day 1 we didn't even see half of the quilts and only managed about 3 aisles of stands. It was HUGE!! The beauty in being by ourselves with no time constraints.

We were excited to meet some of Quilting Royalty in Petra Prins, Di Ford-Hall, Brigitte Giblin, Michelle Yeo, Kathy Doherty plus say hello to a few extremely talented Australian store owners / designers.

We shopped, we learnt and made magic memories. Please enjoy; I'm sorry that I haven't linked or noted designers / makers

We've Arrived!!

We took a Water Taxi Mini Tour of the Harbour which topped off a perfect day

On Monday morning before leaving we walked to the Queen Victoria Building - WOW!! What a beautiful piece of history, just stunning and needing a return trip with more time & empty luggage!

Eyton Hall

Hi Everyone,

Greetings from Australia on a winters day where the fog still hadn't lifted at lunch-time! It maybe cold & bleek outside but there is always colour & inspiration to be found.

I decided I would attempt hand-quilting Irish Circles (photo's in earlier posts). You can see below I had my usual helper providing assistance to tack & prep the quilt. No stitches as yet which has Angus very happy as he's decided its his new bed!

Now onto Eyton Hall - the toile & hexie quilt of my own design. Below are a few progress shots, all be it, very slow progress.

The Joining Process Begins

More, more and more

Laid out to have a look; quite a way to go but am very happy to see my plan / design coming together.

And, I have news!! I said Yes to the man in my life and we will marry May of next year. Exciting times ahead as we build a new life together.

Bubbles Flowers & card from a lovely friend

Sparrow is Flying

Hi Friends

Following prep of 8 applique blocks at last month's getaway I've stitched every chance I could and below is the result!
Little Sparrow (design by Susan Smith) is together but still has some finishing touches by way of a little embroidery for sparrow beaks and legs as well as detail in a few leaves & flowers.

I started this quilt at Summer School 2010 - 7 Years Ago!!

Final Stitches
A few of my favourite fabrics in this flower and throughout the quilt

 Little Sparrow ~ almost there
A Close-up of the Hand Pieced Centre and those Fiddly Blocks!

Now its onto getting that embroidery done and continuing with other projects underway.
